About British Airways
oneworld® founder member British Airways launched the world's first daily scheduled international air service and remains the world's leading international airline. Throughout its history, it has been a pioneer - the first airline to offer jet passenger services, the first to operate weather-beating autolandings, the first to offer supersonic passenger services and the first in the modern era to offer fully-flat beds.
British Airways has announced the launch of a new airline OpenSkies which will start flying between the USA and points in continental Europe from 2008. OpenSkies will not be part of oneworld.
Network
Its main base is London Heathrow, the world's most popular international airport. It also has hubs at London Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow.
With its franchisees and affiliates, it serves some 175 destinations and almost 90 countries, in Europe, Australia, Asia, Africa and North and South America.
Travel Classes
On its most of its longhaul flights, British Airways offers four cabins:
- FIRST, complete with fully flat seats, each in its own cocoon-style area with a seat for a companion to join the passenger for meals or a chat
- Club World, with flat bed sleeper seats. An upgrade to this service is currently underway. For further details, see http://newclubworld.com/
- World Traveller Plus, a premium economy service, offering more room in-flight and dedicated check-in desks
- World Traveller, the airline's economy, or coach, class
On its European flights from London Heathrow, Gatwick and City, the airline offers:
- Club Europe business class
- Euro Traveller economy
Its UK domestic routes are all one-class, as are its services between the UK regions and continental Europe. Even passengers on the cheapest tickets are promised the full-service treatment, with free in-flight meals and drinks on all mainline flights.
Codeshare Partners
Among its oneworld partners, British Airways owns 10 per cent of Iberia. It has wide-ranging commercial agreements with the Spanish airline, and with Qantas. It also code-shares with all other members of the alliance.
Beyond oneworld, it has commercial links with Alaska, Emirates, Jet Airways and SN Brussels.
