oneworld appoints Sales Manager for South America

23 March 2002

oneworld™, the leading global airline alliance – comprising LanChile, American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Cathay Pacific, Finnair, and Qantas – has appointed Marcelo Silistria as its new Area Sales Manager for South America.

He will be responsible for leading the alliance's sales activities across the continent, outside LanChile's Chilean home market, with specific responsibility for Argentina and Brazil, working closely with the sales teams in the alliance's eight airlines.

Together oneworld's members generated some US$50 billion of revenue globally last year, with the alliance's sales activities in South America and around the world making a significant contribution to the overall financial benefit the alliance delivers to its eight member airlines – expected this year to total approaching US$1 billion through revenue generation, protection and feed, and savings from joint purchasing and shared airport and city facilities.

oneworld airlines currently serve 574 destinations in 134 countries and territories, with more than 8,500 flights every day – that's the equivalent of an aircraft taking off or landing every five seconds right around the clock – with most of them either recently completing or midway though significant, multi-million dollar programmes to ensure they maintain their lead in delivering quality customer service.

Marcelo succeeds Racquel Robbe who has returned to British Airways to take up a new appointment with the UK carrier at the end of her oneworld secondment period. He joins from LanChile where he has spent the past six years, working most recently on the development and launch of the LanCorporate sales product in Argentina. Before joining LanChile, he was with Brazil's Varig for two years. He will remain based in Buenos Aires in his new role.
