Second chance for frequent flyers in China to sign up with oneworld

10 October 2011

Frequent flyers in Mainland China have a second chance to take up a special offer from oneworld®, the leading quality global airline alliance.

Cathay Pacific's Asia Miles travel reward programme is at the core of the frequent flyer offer.  Residents of Mainland China signing up for Asia Miles and then flying on any oneworld member airline between 17 October and 31 January 2012 will receive a special 1,000 Asia Miles.

If they fly on any two oneworld member airlines during the three months of the promotion, they will receive double Asia Miles for their flights.

Asia Miles was selected as the oneworld frequent flyer programme for the promotion because, as Asia's leading travel reward programme, it already has the biggest market presence in China of any of the oneworld airline programmes, with more than 300,000 members already enrolled.

Another key advantage is Asia Miles members can also earn and redeem rewards not just on all oneworld member airlines but also on two of Mainland China's biggest airlines, Air China and China Eastern, making it very attractive to customers in the country.

Asia Miles also has 400 non-airline partners including a number of Chinese banks and co-branded cards, enabling cardholders to earn and redeem rewards when they shop, stay at hotels or virtually whenever they spend money.

oneworld's China campaign also highlights the breadth of the alliance's network from China:

  • From Beijing, its existing and designate members fly non-stop to 11 destinations - but with smooth and easy connections from those gateways to 400 more cities.
  • From Shanghai the alliance's carriers operate to 12 points non-stop - with great transfers from there to some 475 points.
  • From Cathay Pacific's Hong Kong hub, oneworld members serve 88 destinations non-stop with affiliate member Dragonair linking 15 cities across the Mainland with Hong Kong.

From these gateways, customers can reach with the smoothest of connections the 750 destinations in 150 countries served by oneworld's member airlines.

The promotion will be supported by print, poster and on-line advertising campaigns and various other activities designed to raise awareness of the alliance and its member airlines.

oneworld Regional Market Development Manager Asia Akira Mori said: "Thousands of customers from Mainland China signed up for this offer during the first three-month phase of our campaign in the spring.   We are repeating it now to enable those who were disappointed to miss out on it earlier this year to take advantage of it now.

"China is today one of the world's biggest regions for air travel demand - yet awareness of the advantages that oneworld offers is low in comparison with most other places.  This exciting campaign is designed to put that right, and make clear all the benefits that the alliance can provide to travelers from this important part of the world, with the overall aim of increasing market share for oneworld and our member airlines."
