World Travel Awards’ best airline alliance title is oneworld’s sixth of year

08 December 2014

oneworld® has collected its third "best airline alliance" award in less than a week - and its unprecedented sixth of the year - after being named the World's Leading Airline Alliance for the 12th year in a row by World Travel Awards.

On Thursday, oneworld was named Best Airline Alliance for the second year running by Premier Traveler in its Best of 2014 awards, just days after being confirmed by Global Traveler as its readers' favourite airline alliance in its 2014 GT Tested Reader Survey, for the fifth year in a row.

Earlier in the year, oneworld was honoured as:

  • Skytrax's World's Best Airline Alliance 2014 for the second year running.
  • Business Traveller's 2014 Best Airline Alliance for the second year running.
  • Air Transport News' Best Airline Alliance 2014.

The World Travel Awards, which has been described by the Wall Street Journal as the "Oscars of the travel industry", presented its top prizes at a glittering ceremony in Anguilla last night.

Its member airlines also flew high in the awards, with American Airlines voted North America's Leading Airline, and LAN Airlines as South America's Leading Airline.

oneworld Vice-President Corporate Communications Michael Blunt said: "oneworld aims to be the first choice airline alliance for the world's frequent international travellers.  Being named best in an unprecedented six of these leading award schemes crowns a momentous year for oneworld, which also marked the completion of our biggest expansion programme yet with the addition of 15 more top-class airlines as full members or affiliates in the past two years and added more benefits for our most loyal customers."
