Double miles offer to frequent flyers as Malaysia Airlines joins

01 February 2013

A special double miles offer is being made to cardholders of all oneworld® member airlines' frequent flyer programmes - including those of Malaysia Airlines' Enrich - to mark the addition of the Malaysian flag carrier to the alliance today.

Members of Malaysia Airlines' Enrich loyalty scheme will receive double Enrich award miles when flying between 15 February 2013 and 15 April 2013 on oneworld partners airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines and around 30 of their affiliated airlines on tickets bought from today to 15 April 2013, provided they register first at https://www.enrich.malaysiaairlines.com/

Similarly, the 125 million members of existing oneworld airlines' loyalty programmes will receive double mileage awards when flying on Malaysia Airlines between 15 February 2013 and 15 April 2013.  For further details, see member airlines' websites.

The 2 million members of the Enrich programme have been mailed new membership cards, bearing the oneworld logo and the alliance's "gemstone" tier status symbol, to ensure that they receive the alliance's full range of services and benefits when travelling throughout the entire oneworld network from tomorrow.

Enrich Platinum cardholders will have Emerald status in the oneworld programme.  Enrich Gold will be equivalent to oneworld Sapphire and Enrich Silver will be oneworld Ruby.

From midnight tonight, Enrich Platinum and Gold members will be able to use any of the 550 airport lounges worldwide offered by oneworld member airlines whenever they fly with any of the alliance's carriers.  (See notes below)  Those lounges include many judged among the best in the world in the various airline industry award schemes.

oneworld is the only alliance to offer top tier frequent flyers access to First Class lounges when they are not booked to travel in the First Class cabin.

Enrich Platinum cardholders will from tomorrow also be able to check-in at the First Class counters of the oneworld airlines, even if they travel in Economy or Business class, and take advantage of two new benefits unveiled today for cardholders with oneworld Emerald status in any member airline loyalty programmes - additional baggage allowances and access to fast tracks through security checks where they are offered.  See separate news release for more details on these new benefits.

Malaysia Airlines' Enrich Gold card is equivalent to oneworld Sapphire, enabling cardholders, accompanied by a guest, to use any Business Class or frequent flyer lounge offered by oneworld's member airlines worldwide when they travel on any oneworld flight, no matter in which class they are booked.

They can also check-in at Business Class desks when they depart on any oneworld flight, irrespective of their class of travel.

As oneworld Emerald and Sapphire frequent flyers, Enrich Platinum and Gold cardholders can now board any oneworld airline's flight at any time they choose before the boarding gate closes, rather than wait for passengers in the cabin in which they are booked to be called for boarding.

Enrich Silver cardholders have become oneworld Ruby frequent flyers.

Like oneworld Sapphire members, they can check-in at Business Class desks when they depart on any oneworld flight, irrespective of their class of travel.

All three oneworld tiers - Emerald, Sapphire and Ruby - are also offered priority standby and waitlisting on any oneworld airline, if the flight they want to travel on is fully booked.

In addition, they can pre-reserve their preferred seat on any oneworld flight, whenever this service is available.

Another key change for Enrich cardholders when Malaysia Airlines joins oneworld tomorrow is that they will earn Enrich status miles when they fly on any oneworld member airline, helping them move up to a higher tier, with more services and benefits, or retain their existing status.

They will also earn mileage rewards when they fly on any oneworld member airline - and be able to redeem their mileage rewards for flights not just to the 60 destinations served by Malaysia Airlines but to all 850 or so served by all oneworld member airlines.

Notes

Because of an impending upgrade to LAN's frequent flyer information technology system, members of Malaysia Airlines' Enrich and LAN's LANPASS programmes will experience reciprocal frequent flyer rewards and benefits when flying on each other's airlines from 1 April 2013.

Preferred and pre-reserved seating is offered in line with the individual policy of the oneworld member airline operating the flight.  Fast track at security lanes is available at selected airports (check oneworld.com for details).

About Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines serves more than 60 destinations in almost 30 countries across Asia, Australasia, Middle East, Europe, and North America, including oneworld hubs Hong Kong, London Heathrow, Los Angeles, Sydney and Tokyo Narita.

Its present fleet of 88 aircraft - including its flagship Airbus A380s - operates more than 250 departures a day.  It boarded 13 million passengers in 2011, generating revenues of MYR 13.6 billion (US$ 4.5 billion).

Malaysia Airlines describes its distinctive brand as an extension of the special culture of warmth and friendliness unique to Malaysians. This inimitable Malaysian sense of graciousness is branded as "Malaysian Hospitality" and symbolized by the acronym MH, which is also the airline's flight code.

Both Malaysia Airlines and its Kuala Lumpur hub are among the industry's most frequent winners of awards for quality service.  Malaysia Airlines itself has won the World's Best Cabin Staff title from the UK based Skytrax airline quality rating agency in seven of the past 11 years.

Last year, Malaysia Airlines marked the entry of its first A380 into its fleet by having its Five-Star Airline status renewed by Skytrax - as the airline embarked on a series of improvements to reposition it as a premium carrier.
