Regional Air no longer a oneworld affiliate as BA terminates its franchise agreement

20 April 2005

British Airways has terminated its franchise agreement with Airkenya Aviation Ltd, trading as Regional Air - which means the Kenya-based carrier is no longer a oneworld affiliate.

Regional Air is rebooking passengers with reservations onto flights by other carriers. They can alternatively get refunds from their travel agents or point of purchase.

As a British Airways franchisee and oneworld affiliate, Regional Air operated from Nairobi to Asmara (Eritrea), Djibouti, Harare, Johannesburg, Khartoum, Lilongwe, Mombasa and Lusaka (Zambia). Harare, Johannesburg and Lusaka remain part of the oneworld network, through services by other member airlines.

Airkenya Aviation Ltd, trading as Regional Air, joined oneworld as an affiliate when it started flying as a British Airways franchisee in June 2001.

British Airways Director of Investments and Joint Ventures Roger Maynard said: "It is with regret that we have terminated our franchise relationship with Air Kenya Aviation Ltd trading as Regional Air, following its suspension last week of flights operated as part of our franchise agreement."
